Blaney Wins XFINITY Pole in Eventful Rain-Shortened Session

Ryan Blaney won the pole for the My Bariatric Solutions 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. Blaney ran a first-round time of 28.439 seconds, and NASCAR called the session after just one round. Starting beside him on Saturday will be Ryan Truex.

As the session began, a few drivers ran slowly around the track, taking note of the grip level as they wobbled the car back and forth. No driver completed a lap before the red flag was thrown to check the track for moisture, given it had been sprinkling much of the day.  The session went back green, then back red for moisture once again. A third stoppage came when Mike Harmon spun with about two and a half minutes remaining in the first round. Elliott Sadler, Kaz Grala, Daniel Hemric, Matt Tifft, and Kevin Harvick were not able to make it through inspection in time, and did not advance to round two. Matt Mills and Mike Harmon did not make Saturday’s race.

NASCAR elected to call the session, as they did in Cup qualifying on Friday, after one round. Drivers will line up based on first round times.
